Creative Energy And Powerful Speaking

Key Takeaways

Our CEO & Founder, Jessica Chen, recently hosted a Soulcast Media | LIVE event on LinkedIn, where she interviewed International Keynote Speaker and bestselling Author of "Energize", Simon Alexander Ong. They shared tips and personal stories about creative energy and powerful speaking.

Here are the takeaways for VIP Comm Pass members:

  • Energy has four dimensions - physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
  • When you are low in spiritual energy, it means you are doing work that is not aligned with your values. You're not in a space or community that allows you to express your full potential. This manifests itself in the feeling of tension inside your stomach. Because it feels like you're going against who you are. When you're high on spiritual energy, you feel a flow because you're working on something that makes you feel alive. And you feel a pull towards making something happen.
  • Often we aren't exhausted because we are doing things physically; it's that we are doing too little of the things that bring us joy and because we want someone else's definition of success.
  • If you are doing work, you don't mind, and you're doing work you enjoy. Then, usually, the reason you are exhausted has to do with the other three buckets - physical, mental, and spiritual.
  • When we think of physical energy, there are three pillars, sleep, nutrition, and movement. If you aren't getting enough rest, if you aren't eating well, and you're not moving your body, then you are going to have a very low baseline of energy. So when you go to work, you aren't going to feel energized to want to do more than the bare minimum because you're running on low.
  • Mental energy is your ability to focus, your mindset, and your ability to tap into your creative energy.

  • Emotional energy is how you relate to yourself and others. This is also referred to as emotional intelligence.
  • We often put more activities in our day to distract us from what it is we really need to address. We get into this trap of craving a busy schedule just to look like we're important - when the reality is we are busy running around in circles, and we aren't really going anywhere.  The question shouldn't be how do I get less busy, and the question should be, how do I prioritize better?
  • If something is important enough to you, you will make time for it.
  • We can't give 100% to everything in our lives at all times. The key is not about whether we are giving 100% each day; the question to ask ourselves is, am I giving my best each day? Giving our best looks different depending on our circumstances and depending on the day.
  • Communications energy is the ability to command the attention of those who are listening.
  • Communication is one of the most important leadership skills we can develop.
  • The ability to communicate with others determines the influence you have. If you have the ability to communicate in a powerful manner, you have the ability to influence every audience you speak to.
  • Part of communicating effectively is trusting that you actually know what you are saying.
  • You cannot have self-development without self-awareness.
  • To elevate your energy, make sleep a priority because it is the foundation of your most productive days.
  • Make sure you are moving your body on a regular basis.
  • Think about the food you are eating is going to give you energy and not drain you.
  • Plan your day the night before. When you plan your day the night before, your quality of sleep is a lot better because you go to bed with a clear mind rather than full of thoughts about the next day. And then, when you wake up, you know exactly what to focus on - rather than waste those precious hours when your energy is at its highest thinking about what you want to do that day.
  • We all know when we start to feel tired, we need to listen to that and not try to push forward. Your quality of work won't be as sharp as it could be.
