Finding Work-Life-Happiness

Key Takeaways

Our CEO & Founder, Jessica Chen, recently hosted a Soulcast Media | LIVE event on LinkedIn, where she interviewed the Founder & CEO of LightWorks, Sally Wolf. They shared tips and personal stories about finding work-life-happiness.

Here are the takeaways for VIP Comm Pass members:

  • Opportunities can exist alongside obstacles.
  • When faced with obstacles, we can feel stressed, and anxious, and that the obstacle is derailing us from our goals.
  • When faced with an obstacle, if we can find something in that moment or that day to feel gratitude for, it can balance us when we start to feel stressed or overwhelmed.
  • Gratitude is a choice.
  • Happiness is a mindset.
  • When we learn how to coach ourselves effectively, we can tap into what we really want. For example, we can find out what we really want by journaling or meditating.
  • We can choose how deep we go with our stories.
  • When we can bring and be our full selves, wherever we go, and lean into it, it inspires deep connection.

  • Communicating what we are doing for ourselves and why it is beneficial to us, can help us find happiness.
  • Communication and vulnerability is a dance, and it is not always led by the more senior person.

  • Vulnerability is a muscle we can build by giving a compliment, and it doesn't have to be sharing our deepest secrets with our managers or coworkers.
  • Almost all of us want to connect, and we are wired to feel meaning and purpose at work.
  • Every person, no matter their title, has the ability to elevate us.
  • How we see what we do can help us find purpose.
  • Happiness is not necessarily a thing we need to achieve.
  • We need to be more clear about our purpose and what fulfills us because that is how we can find our happiness.
  • Meaning is how we make sense of our stories.
  • Post-Traumatic Growth - When we are faced with a difficult situation or circumstances, we don't just get through it, but we grow through it. We do this by making meaning out of our story. We connect the dots. It doesn't mean we would choose it; it just means that when we have lived through it, we think about what we have learned.
  • We can be two things at once - sad and happy. Stressed and grateful.
  • You can have a tough day, and by learning to know yourself better, you have the opportunity to take that tough day and add a little spark - gardening. The key to remembering this happiness thing is that our lives aren't always going to be happy, but when we get to know ourselves better and ride the waves of life, we are able to bounce back from a setback much more quickly.
  • We have to carve out opportunities for ourselves - whether it is setting boundaries, or advocating for a new position. We have to ask for it.
  • We can find low-stakes opportunities to engage with managers or coworkers who are more strict or difficult to work with.
  • To find work-life-happines, we have to be proactive.
