Human Connection And Powerful Communication
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Our CEO and Founder, Jessica Chen, recently hosted a Soulcast Media | LIVE event on LinkedIn, where she interviewed Human Connection Specialist, Simone Heng. They shared tips and personal stories about human connection and powerful communication. Here are the takeaways for VIP Comm Pass members:
- Communications is holistic. Communications is more than learning how to speak clearly and confidently. Communication is not letting anything affect the way we communicate our message.
- Becoming a good communicator requires us to get into the right mindset.
- When preparing for a presentation, we can listen to a specific playlist. First, we can listen to nostalgic music which reminds us of a time when we felt happy and powerful. We can also listen to new songs to give us energy.
- A big mistake people make is running their lines for a presentation right up until the moment they have to go on stage. This tells our subconscious minds that we don't know the material well enough and aren't prepared.
- We need to treat our presentations as conversations
- When we give presentations, we need to humanize the experience. Instead of thinking about how we are talking to the CEO, we can pretend we are conversing with a family member or a friend.
- When we speak, we are connecting and trying to engage others.
- We can't control the environment; we can only control ourselves.

- If we are more introverted, we can get our voices heard by wearing something attention-grabbing, brighter colors, or statement jewelry pieces. More extroverted people will approach us and start the conversation.
- We need to build relationships with people who have some social capital. They're the ones who may think of us, endorse us, and put our names in for different things.
- As managers, we need to proactively ensure everyone has the same opportunity to voice their thoughts. We must look around and see who hasn't spoken, and who has been quiet. We have to become the moderator to allow others to speak up.
- If we are extremely extroverted, one way to help control our energy so it doesn't overtake the room is to learn breathwork. 4x4x8 breathing. Breathe in for four seconds, hold it for four seconds, and then breathe out for eight seconds.
- Human connection can prevent burnout and loneliness.
- The longer we work, the more we realize how important the people we know are. Those are the people who are going to support and cheer for us.
